    78 x 100 cm
    Edition of 10 plus 1 artist's proof

We are delighted to introduced our first collaboration for Editions, with the formidable Sphephelo Mnguni. We travelled to South Africa’s east coast to meet with the Durban-based artist to produce his first work in print since graduating from the Durban University of Technology.

Mnguni’s bold and impressive works document black culture in all its permutations. In We’re Not Poor, the large-format work available from our store, Mnguni depicts Michael Jordan, the iconic American basketball player (and all-round G.O.A.T).

Mnguni is undoubtedly an artist to watch. Recently he has exhibited at BKhz in Johannesburg, and at Ross-Sutton Gallery in New York – his works are held in collections around the globe.

Stone lithograph on drafting film with ink wash
    20 1/8 x 14 1/8 in
    51 x 36 cm
    Edition of 25 plus 3 artist's proofs

In a remarkable pursuit into printmaking, Ruby Swinney produced this enchanting edition of 25 works in the medium of stone lithography, the oldest printmaking technique in the world. In fact, the word 'lithography' comes from the Greek description: an image from stone. To create her lithograph, Swinney drew her image onto a limestone slab using oil-based drawing materials that repel water but accept ink.

Since graduating from the Michaelis School of Fine Arts in 2015, Swinney has had two solo exhibitions with Cape Town gallery, WHATIFTHEWORLD, as well as a solo show with AKINCI Gallery in Amsterdam. In 2018, Swinney's solo exhibition Human Nature was exhibited at Zeitz MOCAA - South Africa's foremost contemporary art museum. Swinney's work is included in various public and private collections both across South Africa and internationally.

You take my face in palm, and call me the morning sun II, 2022
Two colour stone lithograph hand printed on Arches BFK Rives paper
    21 1/4 x 15 3/4 in
    54 x 40 cm
    Edition of 25 plus 3 artist's proofs

Our latest Edition has been created in collaboration with Shakil Solanki. Solanki is a well-known printmaker, and You take my face in palm, and call me the morning sun II is a rare and exciting venture for the artist into the ancient print medium of stone lithography.

Solanki interrogates the dynamics of intimacy using the spatial setting of a secret garden to explore the dualities of tenderness, desire and violence. Whilst the artist is typically associated with his preferred palette of blues, this Edition presents a fresh exploration of his subject matter.

Solanki earned his BAFA from the Michaelis School of Fine Art in 2019. Upon completion of his degree, Solanki was awarded the Simon Gerson Award, as well as the Katrine Harries Print Cabinet Award, for excellent achievement in the printmaking medium. He held his first solo presentation at What If The World Gallery in Cape Town, 2020.
